Household Ingredients Can Cure Common Ailments

There are many different remedies for all kinds of ailments, with some ingredients fitting into several recipes. These are the ingredients you’ll always want to have in the cupboard.

Toothache pain will be gone in minutes of you hold a large swallow of whiskey in the mouth.

A bag of hot salt held against the cheek brings comfort to those with the pain of aching teeth.


At the first sign of a headache, take a vigorous walk. In about ten minutes the pain will fade.

Two teaspoons of honey with each meal will banish migraines. If you feel one coming on, a quick tablespoon can help a lot. Or, boil equal parts of vinegar and honey and inhale the steam.

For curing a headache, put five drops of ammonia in a half glass of water and inhale the fumes. This is also good to clear up a stuffy cold.

Strong coffee will lessen the severity of a migraine headache.

Soaking the hands in very hot water will ease the pain in the head.


For gout, boil one tablespoon cayenne pepper in one cup vinegar, diluted with one cup water. Dab onto the painful joint as needed.

A cup of strawberries with each meal will prevent gout attacks.

Cold Symptoms

Grapes are the best food for one suffering with a fever. Give a small handful every hour or two during the day.

Toast sliced bread and butter both sides. Cover with hot milk and feed to those suffering a fever.

Stop a nagging cough with a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix the juice of one lemon into a half cup of honey an d give frequent doses. Honey stirred into hot lemon tea is also helpful.

For sore throats, mash a clove of garlic into a half cup of honey and then stir in the juice of one lemon. Give a teaspoonful at a time to soothe away the inflammation.


Eat a generous spoonful of horseradish sauce each day to prevent baldness of the head.

If the hair begins to thin, rub the scalp each evening with either vinegar or an egg yolk to restore thick growth.


Smear honey all over a cloth and sprinkle with cayenne pepper. Cover bruise. This will make the bruise heal quickly and melt the pain.

Spread honey on burns to prevent infection and stop the hurt.

Cure a cold sore by easting a whole green pepper. Eat all parts raw except the seeds.

You can heal varicose veins in one month. Pat full strength vinegar onto the offending veins twice a day. Each morning and evening, drink a glass of water with two teaspoons of vinegar in it.

Leg ulcers will heal swiftly if kept covered with castor oil.

Scaly rashes are healed by rubbing daily with a raw potato.

For general body aches, rub down good with a mixture of one cup vinegar and an egg, beaten well. Then soak in a nice hot tube for twenty minutes and dry yourself with a heavy towel so you don’t get chilled. You’ll wake up the next morning feeling bright and fit!
